About
My name is Thomas Mutton, I am
26
years old and live in a small town in Warwickshire called Alcester.
I have over 7 years experience building web sites and web applications for various
clients, big and small.
Since an early age I have had a keen interest in computers and programming. I began
programming at primary school with Turtle (Logo). At High school my attention turned
to Visual Basic and C++. I really enjoyed object orientated programming at this
point. Later on in high school I discovered web design where I signed up to Yahoo
Geocities and started programming html web pages for personal use. As I got older
I learned new languages such as javascript, php and asp. These languages enabled
me to create more dynamic and data driven web sites.
After high school I started an I.T course at college and became even more involved
with programming. It was around this time when I discovered asp.net. I have been
developing web sites using this and Visual Studio since then. I like using asp.net
because the .net framework allows for much quicker development over other languages
such as php.
As soon as I finished my college course I decided to take a degree in Web Management
to further myself in the field and this proved to be worth it because after finishing
my course I was offered a job working for a marketing company based in Covent Garden,
working on projects for multi-national companies such as Kellogg's and Gourmet Garden.
Skills
xhtml & css
All of my work is bespoke and written from scratch. I strive to create well formatted,
visually pleasing and standards coeherant code. As a result, this enables me to
create fast, streamlined and scalable web pages.
ASP.NET
Using Visual Studio, I am able to create dynamic, data driven web sites using ASP.NET
and C#.
Javascript & Jquery
Having been a fan of Javascript for such a long time, it was great to see someone
had made sense of the language by creating a framework for it (Jquery). I use jquery
extensively when creating web pages as it is quick, flexible and easy to use. Consuming
web services has been made much easier by Jquerys ajax methods. It really has been
a pleasure to code with.
C#
I mostly use C# when creating ASP.NET web pages but due to the extensible use of
.net technology throughout Microsofts product range, learning and using C# has been
made much easier. I use C# with various products such as WCF, WPF and Silverlight.
This has come in handy because it allows me to expand my knowledge onto other products.
WPF has been a prime example of this.
SQL Server
Databases and data storage in general have been a key part in most of my projects
as a developer. Without them I would not have been able to create data driven web
sites. Since the early days of discovering MySql, I have branched out to Microsoft
Sql Server. I have also learnt how important speed is especially for high traffic
web sites. This is where optimization comes in, indexing tables with the correct
data types for each field and using stored procedures for efficiency.
